Searching in LS5

LS5 offers powerful search capabilities designed to help you quickly locate the information you need, whether you're looking for a specific case, contact, document, or any other record.

Please note: this article refers only to the search availble from the menu bar (colloquially known as the 'red bar search') not conflict searches, which generally happen inside a case process.

Simple Search

The general search box in LS5 searches names across multiple modules on the site. If you'd like to see all records - case, contact, etc - with the name Jon Doe, the simple search in the search bar provides that option.

This will search the following fields:

  • On the Matter:
    • ID
    • Names (Client First, Middle, Last, Suffix/Second Last Name, Full-Name Combinations, Organization Name)
    • Non-Adverse Party Name
    • Adverse Party Name
    • Alias
    • Case Title
    • Cause Number
    • Email
    • Phones (home, business, mobile, other, fax),
    • Social Security Number
    • Date of Birth
    • A Number
    • Docket
    • Government Generated ID  
  • Contact Names (First, Middle, Last, Suffix/Second Last Name, Full-Name Combinations)
  • Organization
    • Name
    • Email
    • Phones (home, business, mobile, other, fax)
    • Referral contact email
    • Referral contact phone
  • Document names & descriptions
  • User
    • Name  (First, Middle, Last, Suffix/Second Last Name, Full-Name Combinations)
    • Email
    • Phones (home, business, mobile, other, fax)
  • Reports: name and notes
  • Content of smart notes
  • Resource collection name and descriptions

Advanced Search Search Features in LS5

If you are looking for module specific filters they are availble by selecting the module and clicking the filter icon. This is also where you can search case notes specifically.

For example, if you wanted to search on the client's first and last name:

  1. Click inside the Search anything box at the top left of any page.
  2. Select Cases (or the module you would like to search) inside the search window.
  3. Click the Advanced Filter icon in the upper right corner of the search window.
  4. Click the Add Filter button, then First Name, click the Add Filter button again then Last Name.
  5. Enter your search terms.

The filter menu contains all the search and filtering options you've been using, organized in an easy-to-navigate format. This ensures you can continue your work efficiently while we continue to work on enhanced search features.

Enhanced Search Capacities Coming Soon

The LegalServer Team is currently implementing OmniSearch. This is a powerful global search  that will provide more flexible and robust search capabilities across all fields and modules, not just in the search box, but in many other areas of the platform. This upgrade will significantly improve how you find and access information throughout the system, allowing more flexible search from the search box itself.
